Hi Kakao team,
We currently use Universal Links to open Kakao Talk for OAuth authorization. If the user does not have Kakao Talk installed, the Universal Link redirects them to the App Store to download Kakao Talk, instead of continuing the authorization flow.
Could Kakao handle this case directly? If Kakao Talk is not installed, we would like the same Universal Link to open a web authorization page, rather than sending the user to download the app.
iOS already provides a universalLinksOnly option when opening a URL (UIApplication.OpenExternalURLOptionsKey.universalLinksOnly). If this option is set and Kakao Talk is not installed, the open-URL completion handler returns an error, which can then be used to fall back to web authorization.
We hope the Kakao SDK can use this capability internally: open the Universal Link with universalLinksOnly, and if that fails because the app is not installed, automatically fall back to web authorization. That way, client apps would not need to implement this fallback themselves.
Please let us know if this is already supported, or if it is something you can consider.
Thank you.
